The protest movement that began in Tunisia in January, subsequently spreading to Egypt and then to Spain, has now become global – with the protests engulfing Wall Street and cities across America. Globalisation and modern technology now enables social movements to transcend borders as rapidly as ideas can.

Last week in San Francisco, a unique gathering occurred. Dubbed “Rightscon” (Silicon Valley Human Rights Conference), the conference attracted Silicon Valley executives, activists, academics and NGOs, all gathered in one room to debate the role of human rights within the tech industry, as well as the role of the tech industry in serving human rights interests.

Buku ini merupakan kompilasi dari OHCHR (the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights), yang sudah diterbitkan pada Februari 3003. Sehingga, buku rujukan ini layak diunduh dan dirujuk.

Inilah jaman di mana akses teknologi juga dimanfaatkan untuk terorisme global, termasuk pembom bunuh diri. Dampak kemanusiaan dari teroris terhadap sistem pemerintah demokratis menempatkan posisi serba sulit dari intelejen. Untuk itu, buku ini mengambil posisi bahwa organisasi intelijen harus berpikir di luar kelaziman dan memanfaatkan semua sumber daya secara efektif dan kreatif. Organisasi intelijen harus mengatasi musuh dan sekaligus mengamankan perdamaian. Pokok krusial yang hendak dijawab buku ini sungguh menantang: Jika pemerintah dan intelijen terlalu sibuk untuk menjawab apakah tindakan pencegahan terorisme global dan perlindungan warga melanggar hak asasi manusia itu sendiri, maka pemerintah dan intelijen sudah terperangkap dalam teka-teki sialan Al Qaeda dan sejenisnya.
